Envy, Pride, and Sloth

After many weeks of planning and constructing concept designs, I finally began  to work on my take on the Seven Deadly Sins. This week I work on three of those sins: Envy, Pride, and Sloth.

The background for each sin was composed of acrylic paints while the figure was painted on using oil paints. The reason why I decided to use two different paints was because personally I feel when working with acrylics I can have more opinions and flexibility to work with for mark making and I tend to use oils paints more with still lives or the human figures. Also with the background I have incorporated the mix media techniques that I have previously mentioned in the last weeks blog. Techniques such as layering, stencils, using string, smudging and of course splatter paint. Few of the mix medias I worked with this week were in my favor while others not so much. I had to do some improvising while working on the background and on the figures dress. For example with Envy and Pride specifically, I thought it would have been cool to incorporate lace prints for the figure's dress similar to the dress in the photograph I use as reference but it did not work in the way I hoped. Oh well, something to learn from for the near future.
